As part of its work in promoting and advancing the work of Nikos Kazantzakis, the museum works in close collaboration with the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis. The latter is an international non-profit cultural association founded in Geneva in 1988. Its 3000 members in 92 countries are all readers and admirers of Nikos Kazantzakis' work. The Society is administrated by a Coordinating Committee under current president Yiorgos Stasinakis, with independent branches operating in every country where there are members. Authoress Cleopatra Prifti is president of the Greek branch. Society members include academics and figures of international repute. The society's main aim is to promote the work and thought of great author and thinker Nikos Kazantzakis in various ways - through studies, events, conferences and publications.
The International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis issues two bulletins on Nikos Kazantzakis - Synthesis in Greek and Regard Cretois (Cretan Glance) in French. Together with the museum, the society co-organized an international conference entitled "Kazantzakis as a Global Figure" in 2003, and an international symposium marking the fortieth anniversary of the author's death in December 1997.
As part of events commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Nikos Kazantzakis' death, the two organizations are collaborating as organisers of an international conference on "Nikos Kazantzakis and Cretan Culture", to be held in Heraklion and Myrtia from 28 to 30 September 2007.
